Extractions

Extractions are performed on:

  • Decayed teeth– When the decay has progressed so far that the tooth cannot be restored or because of an abscessed tooth.
  • Over-retained teeth– These are baby teeth have not been lost naturally and are blocking the eruption of the new permanent tooth.
  • Orthodontic recommendations– Both primary and permanent teeth

Types of Extractions

At CDCY, our team is dedicated to providing the best care for your child’s smile. Sometimes, a tooth extraction is necessary to ensure your child’s oral health and prevent future issues. While we always aim to preserve your child’s natural teeth, there are situations where removing a tooth is the best option. We use two main techniques for tooth extractions:

  • Simple Extraction: This is typically used for teeth that are fully erupted. Dr. Lutz and Dr. Slevin will gently loosen the tooth and its root using special instruments, and then remove the entire tooth in one piece. This method is quick and effective for teeth that are easy to access.

  • Surgical Extraction: If a tooth is severely damaged or hasn’t fully erupted, we may recommend a surgical extraction. In this case, the tooth is carefully broken into smaller pieces and removed one by one. Sometimes, a small incision in the gum tissue is needed to fully remove the tooth.

We prioritize your child’s comfort and make every effort to ensure the extraction process is as smooth and stress-free as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, we’re here to guide you through the process every step of the way.
